Methodology of the modern science has been examined starting from the closed system approach of conservations laws, limitations of this methodology   to  study  the biological systems and human systems which are open systems, irreversible in nature, with memory, where effect determines the cause, goal directed and having  property of infinite amplification.  Hence General Systems Theory is recommended. It is observed that economic exploitation of science and technology through economic development has generated tremendous amount of entropy in the biosphere. In addition, reductionism and property of closed system approach has resulted into generation of millions of closed structures like cars, television sets, computers, and reduction in interaction among human beings etc. It is suggested that open systems approach will provide an alternative view of reality.  It is suggested that method of science provides a myopic view of reality using space and time, whereas a methodology from Jainism to describe reality using space, time, state of consciousness, matter involved and conditions in which a system is studied provide a five dimensional approach to understand reality, which is closed to nature. An example of a person is given who has not taken food and water from last 75 years and such examples must be considered to understand the concept of consciousness. Finally it is observed that the assertion of Indian philosophy that knowledge is structured in the consciousness gets a support from modern science through the possibility of quantum computer in the brain and possibility of information in the space time geometry.  Lastly one can say that scientific knowledge is only a very small sub set of the total knowledge structured in the consciousness and can describe reality in a better way.
