Plants as well as animals and human beings consist of cells. Within each cell there are metabolic reactions where organic and non organic ions are acting with one another. So small electrical currents and potentials may be originated. As being a neurologist I have observed thousands of so called electroencephalograms (EEG) of human beings where we deduct the voltage activity of the brain via surface electrodes or we observe the electrical activity of muscle cells and muscle fibers via needle electrodes. Several years ago I used this technique to find out whether plants also produce electrical activity within their leaves.
